The benefits of a keto diet are something that I am thankful for every single day. No word of a lie. I have gone from a very very overweight, sick and miserable woman to a healthy, focused and happy one.

The notable advantages of following a Keto diet include, weight loss, improved mental clarity, reduced appetite, decreased cravings, a reduction in inflammation and pain, balanced hormones, and improved metabolism.

A Keto diet helps to bolster the immune system and prevent some metabolic disorders such as, polycystic ovary syndrome, obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

There are some really inspiring success stories of people who have improved their health with a keto diet.

You can read some of our favourite success stories right here.

How to Start a Keto Diet?

While a keto diet can be suited for anyone to follow.

It is important to note that babies, children, teenagers, pregnant or breastfeeding women should seek advice from a medical professional before commencing.

Anyone taking medications should also talk to their doctor before starting a keto lifestyle.

Research more on how to start a keto diet before making the switch. It really does help when starting out.

The Benefits of a Keto Diet

Weight Loss

When you begin a keto lifestyle, your body will begin to use fat as its primary energy source instead of sugar. This state is called ketosis. Ketosis puts your body into an extremely high fat burning state.

Eating the right amount of protein and healthy fats will cause a significant reduction in hunger.

Following a Keto Diet meal plan will help track your daily macros and support the state of ketosis.

Personally, I found changing to a keto diet made significant and immediate changes in my ability to lose weight.

As a woman in her mid 40s, post menopausal and a longterm endometriosis sufferer who could never lose weight I was surprised to lose 3.5kg in my very first week of changing to the keto diet.

Fat loss over time was significant (with over 30kg lost) but it has also been easy to maintain.

A Keto Diet Helps to Reduce Inflammation

When your body is in the state of ketosis it produces ketones.

Ketones block an immune system receptor linked to inflammation. A keto diet also results in blood sugar and insulin levels stabilising.

Imbalanced blood sugar levels are one of the major causes of inflammation.

Reduced inflammation has a profound effect on health conditions.

These include

  • polycystic ovary syndrome
  • acne
  • brain injuries
  • arthritis
  • eczema
  • IBS
  • chronic pain
  • depression
  • joint problems associated with injury or age
  • carpal tunnel

Reverse Insulin Resistance and Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes and Insulin Resistance (IR) are often linked to a high carb diet.

The pancreas is producing insulin but your cells are rejecting it, therefore your blood sugar has nowhere to go and builds up in your bloodstream.

Alternatively your pancreas simply cannot produce enough insulin to deal with your high levels of blood sugar.

Once your body is in a state of ketosis your body will naturally have a lower blood sugar level, hence reducing the need for insulin.

Fat loss can also significantly impact the occurrence of Type 2 Diabetes and lower or reverse both Type 2 and IR and their many other health issues.

Improved Mental Clarity

Ketosis increases the number of mitochondria or “energy factories” in your brain cells. Burning fat increases the stability of neurons in your brain as well.

The benefits of a keto diet also include mental clarity, cognition and increased memory.

It can result in a reduction of epileptic seizures, and significant relief to migraine sufferers and possible migraine prevention.

Research has also proven it has shown effectiveness against

  • Parkinsons
  • Alzheimers
  • Dementia

Personally, I have noticed how much less ‘brain fog’ I have and that I can focus on tasks a lot better than I did when I consumed a high carb diet.

I also find that mental clarity seems more heightened when fasting as well.

Prior to following a keto lifestyle, I was the constant fidgeter in meetings or when I was trying to learn.

Now I am much more focused, and this has been the case since changing my diet.

Because these habits of a lifetime only changed once I went ‘keto’ I feel I can attest to the fact this came with the change of diet.

The benefits of a keto diet truly are too many to list.

Our bodies are amazing and when given the right foods perform so much better.
