[ad_1]

Heart disease is one of the leading killers. Even when it doesn’t kill you, it can dramatically affect your quality of life. You could end up with a disability for heart conditions or even kill your sex life.

When you take your heart health seriously and live a healthy life, then you are doing a world of good for your heart which will repay you over the course of your life. However, even when you think you are doing everything right, there is the possibility that forces you are not aware of are doing some serious damage to your heart.

At this point we all know that smoking cigarettes, eating a poor diet and leading a sedentary lifestyle can put us in an early grave due to heart disease. But, there are other factors that you need to be aware of.

In this article, I will go over several of the surprising factors that can lead to heart disease.

1 – Pollution

Air pollution is a big cause of heart disease that many are not even aware of. The air we breathe can be full of toxins from pollution from cars, industrial areas and sometimes even wildfires.

The problem is that when we breathe polluted air, we are introducing tiny particles into our lungs that cause inflammation. This then affects the blood vessels and then the heart. What’s worse is that we don’t even realize that it is happening. It’s like smoking only you’re not the one buying the cigarettes.

The way to beat this problem is to use good air filters in your home to at least cut down on how much polluted air you breathe. And getting exercise is a good way to clean out your lungs to cut down on the inflammation.

2 – Dental health

Bad, rotting teeth don’t just give you bad breath and a hideous smile. It can also cause some serious heart problems. If you have a cavity that lingers for too long it can become infected. Then, the bacteria that is growing can infect the gums. This is where you have a lot of capillaries that are close to the surface of the gums.

It makes for a perfect highway for the bacteria to go from your mouth to your heart. And when you have an infection in your heart, you are at high risk of a stroke.

This is one of the most preventable causes of heart disease as you only need to make sure you are taking care of your teeth to make sure you don’t get periodontitis that causes heart disease.

Make sure you floss well, brush twice a day and get your teeth checked regularly to stay on top of any cavities.

3 – Stress

Stress is a real killer that doesn’t get enough attention. When we are stressed, our body produces cortisol. This raises the levels of glucose in your bloodstream and suppresses your immune system. In other words, it totally throws off your balance in your entire system.

And then this eventually leads to heart conditions and even stroke. And none of this is to mention how it affects your quality of life. Everybody deals with stress differently and many ways of dealing with it are unhealthy. From overeating, to drinking in excess to even drug use, it can be deadly.

Try to destress to give your heart a break. Do yoga and meditate. Take walks and make sure you are getting enough sleep. Vacations are an important way to decompress and reduce your stress levels so schedule that trip right away if you are feeling stressed.

4 – Insomnia

Not being able to sleep is not just annoying and causing sluggishness, it can also be very unhealthy for your heart. When you don’t sleep enough your body is not able to do the repairs it needs. And this can lead to high blood pressure.

And a lack of sleep inevitably also leads to unhealthy habits. You likely eat worse foods, exercise less and are less likely to take care of yourself in other ways.

If you have trouble sleeping, try some methods like taking supplements before bed. Things like melatonin will help reset your body clock and alert your brain it is time to start sleep mode. Go to bed on a regular schedule and set up your bedroom for sleep by getting rid of distractions like tablets and phones.

A warm bath with some relaxing essential oils is also a great way to get relaxed and ready for sleep before bed.
