Rajani Chinni’s PCOD Story
Hi, my name is Rajani.
I got my first period when I was 13 years old.
Since then it was irregular, sometimes it even got delayed for 6 months too. I took it for granted and took it as an escape from every month’s discomfort. After 4 years, I started putting on weight, facial hair developed and irregular periods too. Then I consulted a local gynaecologist. She suggested a vaginal scan. It was at that time diagnosed with overloaded cysts in my both the ovaries. She prescribed few medicines which I never cared to follow as I literally wanted to skip my periods. Few of my relatives suggested my mum that…
“she will be okay once she gets married.”
So I had irregular periods which were left totally ignored. I got married at the age of 21, delivered a baby boy too. But my periods were still irregular and ignored.
When I was around 25, I started getting lower abdominal pain irregularly both the sides in the absence of periods. This was so unbearable that I consulted a gynae in Apollo hospital, Chennai. She said that my ovaries have increased in size due to overloaded cysts and suggested to remove them by laparoscopic surgery.
I was also advised to take metformin 500 mg. I was scared to get it done and was relying on painkillers too. Later I conceived again and unfortunately got aborted on its own. This happened couple of times and I skipped the idea of having second child.
Till now u all can judge me that I was totally careless about my health. Right! My mom’s health condition was going down because of uncontrolled diabetes. She told me to plan for second kid.
But it got terminated on its own in 6th month.
This disturbed me very badly. I was watching a health programme in T.V. related to polycystic ovaries. Life style changes like changes in diet and exercise regularly will show positive results was the main message that day. I applied sincerely from the very next day…started breathing exercises and yoga…total change in diet too. I was curious to know about my scan report after 3 months.
My doctor said that I have no cyst in my ovaries, have clear graffian follicles and normal size ovaries.
She was comparing my previous reports that suggested laparoscopic surgery and questioned me that how it has happened, its a medical miracle she said. It was because of my mum I realised the importance of health as I have seen her suffering everyday, I took about health seriously.
Today I do get my periods naturally from within 30 to 45 days. I try my best to maintain my diet and exercise maintaining same weight since almost 15 years. And now I am blessed with a healthy second child too. Now I am 37 years old, and after struggling with PCOD for more than a period of 20 years now I am totally free of cysts.
